Obituary

Pocahontas- Mary Poteet, Dalton Johnson, 98 passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas . Mary Poteet was born to Charles and Maggie Rusk Poteet in Reyno, AR on March 11, 1915. She grew up in Reyno, and graduated from Biggers High School where she was an outstanding student and basketball player. Mary was a member of the Church of Christ. On October 20,1935 she married Kermit Dalton, They were the parents of two children, Charlotte Sullivan McIlroy and Edward Franklin Dalton. Kermit passed away in February 1973. Nine years after the death of Kermit, Mary married Truell Johnson. She was blessed with nearly 38 years with Kermit, and 22 years of marriage to Truell. She was loved and respected by Truell's four children, Rita, Ken, Don and Jerry. In addition to husbands Kermit Dalton and Truell Johnson, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kay and Hunter Poteet and sisters Myrtle Cox, Doris Johnson, Marjorie Kilgore, Maggie Abbott, and Virginia Fischer. Her beloved son in law, Arnold Sullivan and several nephews also preceded her in death. Mary is survived by her two children, Edward Franklin and wife Carole of Denton, Texas, Charlotte and husband Thomas McIlroy of Jonesboro, Arkansas, stepdaughter Rita and husband Glenn of Greenville, Texas. Three stepsons, Ken and wife Lana of Wichita, Kansas, Don and wife Lorana of Wichita, Kansas, and Jerry and wife Patti of Troy , Missouri. She is also survived by grandchildren Dalton and Barry Sullivan, Frank and Jeffrey Dalton and Jennifer Ito and 13 Great-Grandchildren. 8 step grandchildren also survive, as well as 11 step great grandchildren, and her sister Roxie Rolen of O'Fallon, Missouri. Mary was talented in many areas, particularly cooking and sewing. She made many beautiful quilts that are treasured by her family. As she got older, one of her favorite past times was playing cards (and usually winning) with the great grandchildren. They all have many precious memories of good food and good times at Granny's house. Mary loved to travel, and enjoyed many camping trips with Truell and his family. Visitation will be at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral service will be at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel Friday, November 15, 2013 st 10:00 A.M. with Larry Owens officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.Mary
