Jonesboro- Mary E. "Betty" Sitz, 87, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 10, 1931 in Weiner to Edward Benjamin and Vera A. Gosney Walker. Mrs. Sitz graduated from Weiner High School in 1949. She played basketball on the Girls High School team. Following graduation, she worked for the Bank of Weiner then First National Bank in Jonesboro. She later was employed by Arkansas Burial Association and Langford Funeral Home as secretary.

In 1955, Betty married Fred L. Sitz and celebrated sixty-three years of marriage. Betty was a Christian and a member of Nettleton United Methodist for over fifty years. She loved her church and served in various capacities as Sunday School teacher, choir, youth leader, communion steward, quilter group and assistant to the church treasurer. She made sure the church was comfortable and inviting thru her decorations for special events and holidays.

Mrs. Sitz was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl Walker and Vernon Walker; three sisters, Elma Senteney, Jessie Walker and Naomi King.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Sitz; two sons, Rick Sitz (Debra) and Bruce Sitz (Lynda) all of Jonesboro; a daughter, Lynn Howerton (Brad) of Jonesboro; a sister, Myrtle Downing of Weiner; three grandchildren, Jacob Sitz (Jenni), Jackson Sitz all of Jonesboro and Maribeth Howerton of Pine Bluff; a great-granddaughter, Oakley Joy Sitz of Jonesboro; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family.

A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, October 29, 2018 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Patty Soward officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Lindell Pratt, Aaron Keller, John Keller, Jacob Sitz, Jackson Sitz and Ron Gartman and as honorary pallbearers, Adult Sunday School Class and the Women's Quilting Group of Nettleton Community Church.
