Mr. Martin Michael "Mike" May of Searcy, departed this life Monday, April 14, 2014, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy, after a long battle with throat and neck cancer, at the age of 70. He was born July 25, 1943 in Shreveport, LA, the son of the late Francis Marion "F.M." May and Billy Cady May. He moved to the Lepanto are at an early age and was a graduate of Lepanto High School. Mike attended ASU in Jonesboro for one year and received a bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Arkansas in 1966. He was a charter member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity at the University of Arkansas. Upon graduation, he worked as a design engineer for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company in St. Louis where he was involved in the F4Phantom program which played a huge role in the Vietnam war effort. Mike moved to Searcy in 1972 where he accepted a position with Remington Rand as a Design Engineer and was involved in the plain paper copier program working on development and introduction of this new product to the marketplace . When the Searcy Plant was transferred to Sperry Vickers in 1975, Mike became involved in the manufacturing phase of the hydraulic valve business and worked in this field until his retirement in 2008. Mike was a member of the Methodist Church and an avid hunter and fisherman and also an avid fan of Razorback Football and NASCAR. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Francis Marion "F.M." May, his mother, Billie Cady May and his sister, Frances Marion May Gallagher, all of Searcy. Mike had no close survivors with the exception of several cousins living in northeast Arkansas in the Harrisburg and Jonesboro area. He does, however, leave a host of friends and acquaintances in the Searcy area who respect both his friendship and his contribution to their lives. Graveside services are set for 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday, 2 p.m. till service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Oncology Department at the White County Medical Center in Searcy, or the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg
