Jonesboro- Martha Lee Holmes, 96, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

The former Martha Lee Vinson was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro. She was the great-great granddaughter of early pioneers in Craighead County, John and Elizabeth Albright. She was the daughter of Raymond and Ila Vinson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James O. Holmes.

Mrs. Holmes worked for many years as a legal secretary for the firm Barrett, Wheatley, Smith, and Deacon of Jonesboro. After some time spent at home raising a family, she then began working at Holmes Tile and Marble Company, the business she shared with her husband. She served as the bookkeeper and secretary/treasurer for the company for more than four decades, retiring at the age of 86. She was a member of the Community of Christ congregation in Jonesboro and served faithfully as the secretary/treasurer for many years. Additionally, she was one of the congregation's pianists, and an active member of the Woodsie Jackson Ladies' Circle, a service organization of the church that was named in honor of her grandmother. She will also be remembered as a volunteer in the Jonesboro community, including holding officer positions in local PTAs and working at voter polls for many years.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Camille and Tim Baldinger of Jonesboro, and Carolyn and John Bevington of Glastonbury, Connecticut; one grandson, Tave Baker of Jonesboro; and two granddaughters, Elaine Bevington of Washington, D.C., and Elizabeth Bevington of Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:30 pm, Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

A celebration of her life will be 2:00 pm Friday, May 4, 2018 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Tave Baker, Leonard Knight, Drew Nadzem, John Sawyer III, William Schmidgall, and Jared Seeman. Honorary pallbearers are Terrasa Andrews, Art Baldinger, E.J. Buhrmester, James Moore, Wes Moore, Bruce Primm, and Malisa Schmidgall.
