Jonesboro- Mrs. Maria Elena Hernandez, age 83, departed this life Thursday, January 16, 2014, near Jonesboro, from injuries received in a car accident. She was born October 25, 1931 in Mexico, the daughter of Emeterio Hernandez and Juanita Lara. She enjoyed gardening and reading her Bible and was a nurse for several years in Mexico. She was a Christian and a member of the Christ Within Us Church in Monette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufino Rodriguez, and four children, Thomas Castillo, Guillermo Castillo, Aaron Castillo and Blanca Rodriguez. She is survived by six children, Eva Castillo of Laredo, TX, Maria Castillo of Brownsville, TX, Cynthia Castillo of Laredo, TX, Alma Rodriguez of Mercedes, TX, Norma Martinez of Monette, and Daniel Rodriguez of Monette; 30 grandchildren and many, many great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, January 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Mr. Victor Palacios officiating. Burial will follow in Monette Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday, 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Jose Martinez, Daniel Rodriguez, Daniel Flores, Daniel, Omar, and Victor Palacios.
