Obituary

Lydia Jane (Wineland) Patterson Jane was born on February 3, 1923 in Clinton, Indiana. She was the third of thirteen children born to the late John and Wahenta (Hutton) Dorman Wineland. In 1927, her family bought a houseboat and floated it down the Wabash and Ohio Rivers to near Cairo, Illinois. The shelling business eventually brought them to Pocahontas. She married Clyde Ryburn Patterson on August 23, 1940 and traveled with him to various Army bases during World War II. Clyde passed away in 1980. Clyde and Jane had seven children, the late Tommy Patterson of Pocahontas, Charlotte (Lambert) Jansen of Pocahontas, Nancy (Albert) Frankenberger of Jonesboro, the late Clyde David who died at five years old, Dottie (John) Hopkins and Debbie Stinson of Shoals, IN, and Cathy Jones of Pocahontas. Jane leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 12 great grand children and 6 great great grandchildren, many of whom she took care of when they were young. One grandson, Scott Dawson, preceded her in death. She is also survived by one sister, Alice Barnett of Pocahontas. A hard working, dedicated mother and grandmother, she worked numerous jobs and long hours to care for her children. She was always grateful to the many compassionate, good people in Pocahontas who helped her. Jane has been a long time resident of Pocahontas and has spent the last year and a half at Randolph County Nursing Home. She and her family appreciate the kindness and care provided by the staff and her doctors. They made her last years more comfortable. Jane peacefully passed away, after visits from her five loving daughters and several grandchildren on May 4, 2011. She was 88 years old. A visitation will be held at McNabb Funeral Home from 5:00 o'clock until 7:00 o'clock on May 5, 2011. The funeral services will be at the McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas on May 6 at 2:00 o'clock with Roger Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Paul Dawson, Joseph Jansen, Britt Frankenberger, John David Hopkins, Joey Jones, Josh Jones and Justin Patterson.
