Fisher- Lydia Augusta Conrad Tilley, 95, died Friday, November 10, 2017 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House after a five month stay.
Mrs. Tilley was born November 2, 1922 in Farmington, Missouri to the late Herman Oscar Conrad and Lydia Priscilla Bollinger Conrad. After several years in Missouri, Lydia lost her father due to heart failure. The family moved to Waldenburg when she was six years old. Her mother and her three brothers pursued a livelihood in Poinsett County as farmers.
Mrs. Tilley pursued a career in retail at fifteen years of age while attending Weiner Public School and working for Thompson General Store in Waldenburg. She graduated Weiner High School at sixteen years of age. She met her soon to be husband, Eugene Debs Tilley, While Working in Waldenburg. They married on June 1, 1940. They were also farmers in Poinsett County.
She was a widow for nearly twenty years as Eugene passed on March 30, 1998. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Bollinger Conrad and Warren Conrad who was a Merchant Marine in World War II; a sister, Grace Priscilla Conrad Hendrix who was a nurse anesthetist and a daughter, Linda Carol Rule.
She is survived by her children, Don Tilley and Raymond P. Tilley (Linda) all of Jonesboro, Bill Tilley (Becky) of Fisher and Sharon Wardlow (Norman) of Jonesboro; her youngest brother, Army Colonel Herman Oscar Conrad of Elkins, West Virginia; grandchildren, Matt Tilley of Spokane, Washington, Paige Jones of Jonesboro, Chris Wardlow of Pocahontas, Brian Wardlow of Portland, Oregon, Amy Galla of North Carolina, Jack Rule of Florida, Greg Tilley of North Carolina and Melissa Bruce of Mississippi; great-grandchildren, Brett Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Bennett Wardlow, Veta Lynn Galla, Laura Erin Bruce and Daniel Tilley.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until time of service Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Community of Christ Church in Fisher.
A celebration of her life will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at Community of Christ Church in Fisher. Interment will follow at Fisher Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Frank Lyndsey, Herman Shelley, Greg Kelley, Marty Horst, Buster Bush and Kenneth Wixson.
