Obituary

Jonesboro- Lucille Taylor, 90, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Lucille Taylor was born November 14, 1925 at Zion, Arkansas in the Ozarks. Her mother Mellie Johnson taught school in a one room school house. This inspired her to strive for excellence and make something out of her life. She received a college degree in math education. She later earned a master's degree in math. She taught high school for thirty-five years, mostly at Valley View High School. Teaching high school often required a person to take on many extra jobs. For instance, she sponsored the student council organization. She spent many nights at ball games sponsoring the concession stand business. She even taught bowling at one school where she had to fill in for P.E. position. She was always willing to take on a new challenge, no matter how daunting it might be. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for sixty-one years. She served in many roles at the church including teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and most recently as church treasurer for thirty-five years. She kept the books for her husband, Julian Taylor and helped him build a successful farming business. She also worked for H R Block for ten years and did accounting taxes for her friends. She was very active driving herself to church, to run errands, and attend social functions until the car crash on May 22, 2015 at which time she was 89. After that she was very sick. However, she gave rehab her best effort. She never for a moment considered giving up. She fully intended to have a complete recovery. Near the end she became very very sick, yet she refused to take any pain medicine if it was dangerous. She gave life her all. She was a trouper up until she took her very last breath on Wednesday at 7 pm. There was nothing about her life that could be characterized as symptomatic of "being old". She was an active, vibrant member of the community until she became sick. She has two children, Dr. Julia Louann Taylor of San Diego, California and David Franklin Taylor of Jonesboro; four grandchildren, David Franklin Taylor Jr., Stephen Taylor, Michella Stone and Jessica Cope; great-grandchildren, Gaige Taylor, Averi Taylor, Haleigh Stone, Jacob Stone, Natalie Stone, Jackson Adams, Bailey Cope, Rainey Cope, Tyler Cope, Ashlin Cope and Brooklyn Cope. Lucille had three sisters, Oneita Byram, Ivalene Bonnie Guiltner, and Marian Robbie Boatright and two brothers, Raybourne Johnson and Ronald Johnson. A celebration of her life will be 2:00 pm Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home with Rev. Don Vuncannon and her nephew, Rev. Boyce G. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, September 16, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Honored to serve as pallbearers, David Taylor Jr., Stephen Taylor, Greg Stone, Dr. George Connor, Mark Mann and Owen Wilson. Lasting memorials may be sent to Child Evangelism Fellowship, P. O. Box 348, Warrenton, MO 63383. Her daughter, Julia said "The thing I admired most about my Mom was her resilience. She was not stopped by any obstacle. She successfully overcame many obstacles in her life. Not everyone does that. It is a choice when it comes right down to it. Her life was not a postcard out of Norman Rockwell's files, but if you knew her you might think that."
