Mrs. Lucille Chandler Smith of Harrisburg left to be in her loving savior's arms Sunday, March 9, 2025, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, at the age of 89. Her loving family was by her side.
She was born June 28, 1935 in Tyronza, the daughter of the late Charles Edward "Ed" Chandler and Florence Smith Chandler. She later moved to Harrisburg in 1948 and was a 1953 graduate of Harrisburg High School.
Lucille married Joseph "Joey" Smith on November 3, 1956 and they enjoyed 67 years together before his death on May 15, 2024. She was a homemaker and attended the Bolivar Full Gospel Pentecostal Church faithfully for over 72 years. She was saved in 1953 in her teens and never veered away from her faith. She loved her church family. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, and she was an excellent housekeeper and cleaner. She loved writing poems and tending her gardens and her 5 children. In addition to her parents Ed and Florence Chandler, and her husband Joey, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Ruby Reynolds Chandler, two brother, Ervin Rickman and James "Bill" Walter Chandler, a sister, Betty Jo Rickman Haner. Also newborn twins, two brothers-in-law, George Haner and Jimmy Downing and a sister -in-law, Connie Chandler.
She is survived by three sons, Stanley Smith, Michael Smith (Jennifer), Charlie Smith (Shannon), all of Harrisburg, two daughters, Anita Sanders (Merv) of Rosie, AR and Melissa Lewis (Tony) of Amagon, AR, four granddaughters, Amanda Miller (Farrell), Morgan Walker (Wade), Caroline Smith (fiancee` Dylan Bornhoft) and Natalie Smith, three grandsons, Steven Sanders, Connor Smith, and Tony Lewis, II, (Stephanie)and three great-great grandchildren, Nicole Pitcher, David Pitcher, and Austin Pitcher. She also leaves behind two sisters, Becky Downing and Edna Reeves (David), and two brothers, Charles Edward "Shorty" Chandler, Jr. (Carol) and Robert "Bob" Chandler (Lily), all of Harrisburg.
Funeral services are set for 3:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Bolivar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Charlie Smith, Tony Lewis, Merv Sanders, Michael Irvin and Gary Smith.
