Mamye Lucille Poindexter, 99, of Pocahontas departed this life on Monday, June 29, 2026, at her home.
Lucille was born on August 30, 1926, in Pocahontas to the late Will and Mary Keech. She attended the Lesterville Church and First Free Will Baptist Church where she met and married her husband of 42 years, Freeman Clint Poindexter. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and ever faithful friend. She loved working in her garden and sewing things such as quilts. She worked at various jobs between Pocahontas and St. Louis, MO. When her father got ill and family decided to settle in Pocahontas, she started working at Brown Shoe Company for almost 40 years. She had a stroke, on June 26, 2004, and had intensive therapy in Brentwood, TN. She had to work on her speech and walking ability. She tried to stay at her home and be close to her son, James Dale Poindexter and go visit her daughter, Freeman Lou Williams. When James Dale passed away it became apparent that she would have to move to her daughter’s house.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Mary Keech; husband, Freeman Poindexter; son, James Dale Poindexter; grandson, Adam Poindexter; six brothers, Alvin, Trousdell, Drexdell, Lowell, Lloyd, and Gordon; one sister, Bastena; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Poindexter; son-in-law, Bill Williams.
