Jonesboro- Lt. Col. Marcia Patton, 64, passed away in Memphis, Tennessee, Monday, March 18, 2019 at The Regional One Trauma Center.
She lived most of her life in Jonesboro, receiving her RN degree from the University of Arkansas and later a BSN and MSN in Nursing. She worked for the Health Department for fifteen years as a home health nurse, public health and specialized in immunizations.
She served twenty-eight years in the Army as a Nurse and received the rank of Lt. Col. After returning from the Persian Gulf War. Marcia was appointed to the State Board of Nursing and was also the Head of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
She was married to Mike Hays and was very active in many civic roles, at St. Timothy's Anglican Church, Marcia was the President of "Daughters of the Holy Cross", AAUW, D.A.R. past president for the local chapter. She was a caregiver all of her life. Marcia always wanted to be a nurse and was dedicated to her profession.
She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Patton Jr.
She is survived by her mother, Ann Patton; a sister, Dottie Wilson and nephew, Parker Wilson; a sister, Cathy Hall and two nieces, Elizabeth and Sara Hall.
A celebration of her life will be 1:00 pm Saturday, March 23, 2019 at St. Timothy Anglican Church with Father Ron Martin. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, March 22, 2019 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel.
