Obituary

Lt. Howard Earl Redd Jr., 59, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the U.A.M.S. Medical center in Little Rock, after he succumbed to medical complications.

He was born June 1, 1961 in Phoenix, AZ, the son of Howard Earl Redd, Sr. and Lula Belle Fraze Redd. He graduated from Parkin High School in 1979 and began a career as a meat cutter at IGA in Trumann and Buck\u0027s in Marked Tree. Lt. Redd began his law enforcement career in 1996 when he started working with Poinsett County Sheriff's Office as a jailer. In later years, he moved on to serve with the Harrisburg Police Department in Arkansas, Olive Branch Police Department in Mississippi, Rowland Police Department in Oklahoma, and to the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Police Department where he served for nearly 16 years.

Lt. Redd served the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Police Department for 5 years as a patrol officer, promoted to Sergeant in December of 2010 where he served as a patrol Sergeant and a Traffic Sergeant. In July 2017, he was promoted to Lieutenant where he served as the shift commander for the 3rd shift.

While in Harrisburg, Lt. Redd was a t-ball coach as well as cub scout master. He enjoyed his aquariums and was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed the outdoors and camping.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Earl Redd, Sr. and one sister, Robin Redd.

He is survived by his mother, Lula Belle Fraze Richardson of Bentonville; one son, Adam Howard Redd (Samantha) of Brookland; two brothers, Christopher Richardson of Jonesboro and Dru Inman of Bentonville; two grandchildren, Claire Redd and Alyssa Redd, and two nephews, Cody Richardson and Camron Richardson.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Mark Weston officiating.

An honor guard and pallbearers will be provided by the U.A.M.S. Police Department. Interment will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery near Harrisburg with full honors given by the Jonesboro Police Department Honor Guard.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday, noon till service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the Fraternal Order of Police.

The University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Police Department will forever remember Lt. Redd for his great personality and comic character that always kept everyone laughing.
