Lake City- Mrs. Lonnie Armstrong, 90, passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at Flo \u0026 Phil Jones Hospice House.
She was born May 24, 1929 in Pontotoc, Mississippi to the late Lon and Ludie McMurray Mathews. She was a homemaker and activities director at Lakeside Nursing for many years. Mrs. Lonnie was a Cardinals and Grizzles fan who loved to bake, garden and spend time with her family. She was also active at Lake City First Baptist Church and Lunsford Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Short (Terry) of Lake City and J. Q. Armstrong III (Pat) of Spartanburg, SC; a sister, Wilma Dean Pope of Diamond Head, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Mathew Short (Leigh Ann) of Caraway, Sara Creecy (Scott) of Osceola, Evan Wilkes Short (Natalie) of Cabot, J. Q. Armstrong IV (Keri) and Kathryn Sorrel (Adam) all of Greer, SC and Emily Armstrong (fianc Michael Buckingham) of Spartanburg; nine great-grandchildren, Dalton Short, Maleigh Short, Macie Short, Hayden Creecy, Braxton Creecy, Braelyn Creecy, Loren Short, Caleb Short and Eadie Armstrong and special friend, Martha Carter.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Q. Armstrong Jr.; two brothers, Dexter Mathews and Dorsey Neil Mathews and three sisters, Robbie Nell Weems, Lou Donald Weems and Bethena Martin.
A private graveside service will be held at Bowman Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Mathew Short, Wilkes Short, Scott Creecy, Jake Armstrong, Dalton Short and Braxton Creecy.
