Mrs. Lola Maxine Barker of Harrisburg, departed this life Friday, August 16, 2019, at her home, at the age of 85.
She was born November 1, 1933 in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late John Vail and Alberta Cole Vail.
Maxine was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning. She was an avid collector of Ziggys. She married James Doyle Barker on May 5, 1951 and they enjoyed 58 years together before his death in 2009. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Monroe Barker, and six siblings, Berniece Pierce, Clara Cummings, Beatrice Corotto, J.P. vail, Marvin Vail and James Vail.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Barker (Pam) of Harrisburg and Jimmy Barker (Terri) of Lepanto, one daughter, Karen Hess of Hernando, MS, nine grandchildren, Tray Hess, Jennifer Barker, James Barker, Lara Stroud, April Gardner, Tori Smith, John Barker, Zachary Barker and Andrew Barker, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2019, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Rev. Kenny McMahan officiating. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday afternoon, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
