Obituary

Jonesboro- Leroy Gipson, 86, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 at his home.

He was born November 14, 1932 in Russell to the late Oscar and Mamie Hampton Gipson. He was a graduate of Jonesboro High School and Georgia State University. Leroy served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Sadie Bryant on February 14, 1953 and enjoyed almost sixty-six years together.

He was a member of the Order of DeMolay, a fifty year plus member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge # 129, thirty-second degree Scottish Rite, and Noble of the Mystic Shrine. He retired from Safeway Foods and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He loved to travel and especially his motorcycle trips all over the United States and Canada. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and was a ham radio operator.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie Bryant Gipson; children, Robert Lee Gipson (Therese) of St. Peters, Missouri, William Roy Gipson (Casey) of Pomerano Beach, Florida, Debbie Lynn Gipson of Jonesboro and Carolyn Ann Crawford (Steven) of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Paul Gipson, Kenneth Gipson, Hosea Gipson and sisters, Leola Tate, Retha Mayhan and Ethel Fletcher.

The visitation will be from noon until 2:00 pm Tuesday at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

A celebration of his life will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Bruce and Joan Primm, Gary Gipson and Ken Gipson officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Lee Mayhan and the employees of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
