Jonesboro- Leon O. Tharp, 91, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at his home.
He was born February 2, 1929 in Trumann to Dudley and Winnie Gatlin Tharp. He was a farmer, boilermaker and brought the first Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store to Arkansas in 1969. He enjoyed working, listening to music and enjoyed board games and puzzles.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Novella Depriest Tharp; a son, Roger Tharp of Shelby County, TN; two daughters, Donna Tharp of Jonesboro and Darla Tharp Oringderff of Maryville, TN; six grandchildren, Sarah Hohman (Wes), Marcus Whybrew, Kara Whybrew, Kyle Whybrew, Kelty Oringderff, Connor Oringderff; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Tharp and Billie Lee "Pete" Tharp and a host of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from noon until 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
A celebration of his life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Kyle Whybrew, Marcus Whybrew, Richie Tharp, Rich Tharp, Wes Hohman and Ronnie Everhart.
