Obituary

Mr. Joseph DeWitt "Sonny" Deckelman of Harrisburg, departed this life Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Woodbriar Nursing Home in Harrisburg, at the age of 82. Sonny was born September 1, 1933 in Harrisburg to Joe Deckelman and Nell Ellzey Deckelman. Sonny served in the US Air Force and was a Koren War veteran. He served as a Commander for the American Legion and Veterans Foreign Wars. Sonny was a member of the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame and enjoyed many years playing guitar in Nashville and Northeast Arkansas. He recorded several songs including "I've Got Love" which became a hit song on Rockabilly hit list, "I'll Be Alright", "Even the Bad Times Are Good", "Green, Green Grass Of Home, Billy Boy and an excellent cover of Charlie Rich's "Lonely Weekends". He is preceded in death by his parents, His wife Aldeana Terry Deckelman, one son, Joey Deckelman, and two grandchildren. He is survived by one son Thomas Deckelman of Harrisburg, two daughters, Sheree Moser of Indiana, and Jodie Herron of Harrisburg, three sisters, Louise Weeks, Lora Jean Hancock both of Harrisburg and Brenda Hogue of Jonesboro, one brother, Charles Deckelman of Clinton, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Bro. Charles Deckelman officiating. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday, 1:00-2:00 p.m. American Legion will serve as pallbearers.
