Mr. Johnny Lunsford of Harrisburg, AR departed this life on Monday, August 21, 2023, at his home, at the age of 66.
He was born January 25, 1957 in Jonesboro, AR, the son of the late Allison Lunsford and Monila Linville Lunsford.
Johnny was raised in Earle, where he also attended High School and played football. He taught himself to play guitar and bass, and since his teenage years, was a member of the band, Stardust. As a young adult Johnny served for a short time in the Arkansas Army National Guard. He was the owner and operator of Johnny's Neon in Harrisburg since 1981, where he excelled. He created and installed the huge guitar on Mud Island in Memphis that stated "Memphis, Home of the Blues, Birthplace of Rock-N-Roll", that could be seen when entering Memphis from the Memphis-Arkansas Bridge. He did much of the neon in the early casinos that went into Tunica. He enjoyed music, motorcycles and racing,. At one time he owned the Heartland Speedway, along with siblings Danny and Deb. That was before it was called Poinsett Speedway. He loved his grand babies and was known to have a party for any occasion. He also enjoyed water sports and coaching the Harrisburg ball teams where he coached basketball, T-ball, and baseball. Johnny was talented, a self-starter in all things and very industrious. He was always the first one there for anyone who needed a helping hand. He will be missed by the many whose lives he touched.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Carolyn "Dimples" Keeley, Mary Garrison, Tommie Hall and Jimmy Lunsford.
He is survived by three children, Johnna (Jason) Vaulner, Jen Sproling and Andy (Destiny) Lunsford, all of Jonesboro, two brothers, Danny Lunsford of Earle and Cleve (Maudie) Lamb of Modesto, CA, two sisters, Deb (Wayne) Yates of Cherry Valley and Jude Lunsford and her husband Jack Thorn of Jonesboro, and three grandchildren that he adored, Jaylee Vaulner, Zoeigh Sproling and Tatum Sproling, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Rev Gary Henson and Rev Don Petit Officiating. Interment will follow in Gibson Bayou Cemetery in Earle. All arrangements have been entrusted to Gregg-Weston Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday, 10:00 a.m. till service time. Pallbearers will be Andy Lunsford, Daniel Lunsford, Donald Carroll, James Crawford, Gary Carroll and Rodney Garrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse "Dub" Phelps, Jason Vaulner, Quinte` Sproling, Mike Morrow, Jeff Goza. and Danny Lunsford.
