Obituary

Mr. John Robert Taylor, Sr. of Advance, MO, formerly of Harrisburg, departed this life Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Advance Assisted Living in Advance, Mo, at the age of 89.

He was born September 24, 1936 in Hickory Ridge, AR, the son of the late Robert and Alma Caudle Taylor.

John retired in 1975 from the U.S. Army, where he achieved a rank of sergeant first class, after a 20-year career. Following that career, he worked as a purchasing agent for Hudson Foods in Dexter, MO and retired there in 1993. John was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He loved to hunt, fish, walk and work in his garden. He was a member and deacon of the Oakview General Baptist Church in Harrisburg and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Christine in 2023. They married on June 14, 1955 and enjoyed 68 years together. He is also receded by one daughter, Rebecca Taylor, one granddaughter, Jamie Hammett and two sisters, Thelma Smith and Sarah Barker.

He is survived by two daughters, Rhelda (Bill) Noble of Advance, MO and Brenda Hammett of Brookland, AR, one son, John Robert Taylor, Jr. of Springfield, MO, two granddaughters, Elizabeth Tippitt and Amanda Noble, one sister, Margie Henderson, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services are set for 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Brother Jerry Thompson officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home, Monday, Noon till 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
