Harrisburg- John Richard Smith, Sr. departed this life Monday, May 6, 2019, at the NEA Baptist hospital in Jonesboro, at the age of 69.

He was born October 11, 1949 in Athens, Alabama, the son of the late Edward Marion Smith and Gladys Whitehead Smith. Richard was an automotive mechanic and also worked on a farm. He loved fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Perry J. Smith and one sister, Patricia Brown.

He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Hively (Willard) of Harrisburg and Melissa Hicks of Summertown, TN; two sons, John Richard Smith, Jr. of Batesville and Richard Hicks of Summertown, TN; three brothers, Edward Smith of Hartsell, AL, Robert Smith (Kitty) of Harrisburg, and Terry Smith of Athens, AL; two sisters, Virginia Smith of Decatur, AL and Linda Motters (Leroy) of Elkmont, AL; eighteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Brother Greg Hoskins officiating.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. till service time.
