Lake City- John N. Davis Jr., 84 passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born January 7, 1931 in Bay to the late John Newton Davis Sr. and Clemmie Alice Riddle Davis. He was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church. John was called to military service in January of 1954. In the United States Army, he served with the 81st Transportation Boat Company and was stationed in Rochefort, France. John ran the Gulf Service Station in Lake City for 12 years in the 50's and 60's. He was a former production manager at Hytrol Conveyor Company, where he worked from 1969 until 1994 when he retired. John was also a 50 year member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge # 405/ Caraway Masonic Lodge # 733. He is survived by a son, John Shannon Davis (Joyce); a daughter, Arista Jean Elder (Craig); a sister, Virginia Gilliam; two grandchildren, Michelle Davis (Rick) and Nathaniel Elder; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Davis (Brittni) and Aubrey Davis. John was also preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Davis; brothers, Roy Davis, Ray Davis and Howard Davis; sisters, Velma Martin, Louise Purcell, Lucille Neyman, Lorene Shoffner, Ruby Mink and Jane Smith. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Reed and Rick Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 pm Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. Honored to serve as pallbearers, Rick Davis, Anthony Davis, Nathaniel Elder, David Joe Deaton, Skip Hogue and Len B Nall. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Lake City United Methodist Church Adult Sunday School Class. Lasting memorials may be sent to the Lake City United Methodist Church.
