Jonesboro- John Bradley, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born on February 11, 1937 at Jonesboro to the John Melton Bradley and Lillie O'Neil Bradley. He attended Jonesboro Public School. He served proudly in the United States Army, he was part of the Company C, 806th Engineer at Fort Rucker in Alabama from 1960 until 1962, and he received awards for rifle sharpshooter, carbine expert and heavy equipment. He also worked at Jonesboro Coke Bottling Company. Mr. Bradley started working for the Jonesboro Fire Department in June of 1959 until June of 1984, less two years in military. He had twenty-three years of service, retiring as Fire Marshal. He was certificated for Arson Investigation from Southern Arkansas University at East Camden, Arkansas. He was at the Arkansas Fire Training Academy from 1984 to 1986 training rural fire departments. He was also certified Emergency Medical Technician, certified CPR from the American Heart Association and an Amateur Radio Technician. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved camping, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Realma Smith Bradley; a sister, Doris Clark of Jonesboro and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn Bradley, Bill Bradley and Eldridge Bradley. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Farris officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Friday, August 2, 2013 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home, 300 W. Matthews Ave. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Firefighters and as honorary pallbearers the retired firefighters.
