Jonesboro- Joe A, Johnson died Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Joe was born in 1919 to Jacob Andrew and Mona Johnson in Vernon, Alabama. He was an alumnus of Freed-Hardeman Collge and a graduate of Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisana. He married Wanda Hall of Tuckerman 74 years ago. Joe worked for Sears in Advertising and Sales promotion for 40 years. During that time, he preached in several different congregations of the Church of Christ in the Shreveport area. Upon his retirement from Sears, Joe and Wanda moved to Waverly, Tennessee and he began full-time preaching. Since 1978, he has worked for churches in Waverly; Carbondale, Illinois; Anna, Illinois; and the Pocahontas area. Joe began preaching in 1939 and preached his last sermon in Jonesboro a few weeks ago. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children; one daughter, Wanda Jo and her husband Owen Moseley of Jonesboro; on son, Donald and his wife Nancy of Springfield, MO; four grandchildren, Don Moseley of Rogers, AR; Christy Ann and her husband Thomas Blakeney of Jonesboro; Amy Johnson of Nashville, TN; Laura and her husband Josh Moore of Lapeer, MI; four great grandchildren; Jonathan Jacob Moseley; Alyssa Blakeney ; and Katelynn Moore. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pyburn street Church of Chris in Pocahontas with interment in Gracelawn Cemetery in Tuckerman. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday until service time. Those who wish to make a contribution in memory of him, in lieu of flowers, please make them to the Children's Homes in Paragould or the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
