Jonesboro- Joe Cullum, 72, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026 at NEA Baptist Hospital.

Joe was born December 4, 1953 in Jonesboro, AR, to the late Gail and Polly Birmingham Cullum. He was a graduate of Monette High School, Class of 1972 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Arkansas State University in 1976.

He served his community as a long time member and President of the Jonesboro Public School Board, and a lifetime member of Jonesboro Lions Club rarely missing a single meeting.

He spent his professional career in banking, serving in various capacities in the Jonesboro market, until his retirement in January 2026.

Joe was a man of faith who loved the Lord and found great comfort in his relationship with Jesus. He was incredibly active and happiest when he was outside and working with his hands. He spent much of his free time doing yard work, building, fixing, and always finding something to keep himself busy.

Joe was an avid sports fan, proudly cheering on both the Razorbacks and the Red Wolves. Many evenings, you could find him sitting at the kitchen table, watching a St. Louis Cardinals game and enjoying one of his favorite pastimes.

He had a love for the outdoors, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and his good friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gay Bearden Cullum; his two children: Jonathan Cullum (Ashley) of Germantown, TN, and their four children: Collins, Hayes, Webb, and Field; and Blake Cullum of Lake City, AR, and his two children: Colbie and Amelia. His brother, Larry Cullum (Barbara) of Germantown, TN;

He was preceded in death by his sister, Gayla Jones, and his brother, Terry Cullum.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Gregg-Langford-Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro, AR with Steve Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Macey Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until time of service, Saturday at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Hayes Cullum, Daniel Cullum, John Highfill, Ben Massey, Grayson Taylor, and Jack Sparkman.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to American Cancer Society or Jonesboro Lions Club.
