Jonesboro- Jewell Chambers Fowler, 89, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born on September 22, 1924 in Jonesboro to the late John Thomas and Sallie Ferguson Chambers. She was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church. Mrs. Jewell worked for six years at Heinemann Department Store, prior to working for Mercantile Bank from 1952 until retirement in 1988. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Linda and Russell H. Dowden Jr. of New Palestine, Indiana; three grandchildren, Kevin Dowden, Leigh Ann Roembke and Stacy Morgan; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Chester, Peyton Chester, Ryan Chester and Dowden Brooks and a great-great-granddaughter, Karsen Chester. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Melvin Chambers, Johnny Chambers, Virgil Chambers, Benny Chambers and Joseph Chambers and five sisters, Nona Chambers, Zetta Fuller, Alberta Dickson, Ruby Hiette and Laverne Roleson. A celebration of her life will be noon, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Sigman officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service, Tuesday at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home, 300 W. Matthews Ave. Lasting memorials may be sent to St. Paul Methodist Church.
