Obituary

Jerry Faith Walker Neumeyer, 70, of Little Rock, AR., passed away January 23, 2015 at Baptist Health Center, after a severe hemorrhagic stroke the day before. She was born February 29, 1944, in Pocahontas, AR., daughter of the late Hiriam Gerald Walker and Faith Cude Walker Hooper. Besides her parents, Jerry was preceded in death by her husband from 1962-1972, Wayne Arthur Neumeyer. Jerry valued education for herself and others. She was a 1962 graduate of Kennett High School in Kennett, Missouri and later received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR. After earning her Master of Science degree, she worked as a Speech and Language Pathologist at Green County Tech, in Paragould, AR. She later became the Early Childhood Coordinator for Northeast Arkansas Educational Cooperative in Hoxie, AR. During this time, she received an award from Arkansas State University as Outstanding Alumna of the Communicative Disorders Program. On April 4, 1992, she was one of five recipients of the 1992 Outstanding Child Care Professionals of Arkansas Award. For this award she received a letter from then governor, Bill Clinton, congratulating her on this truly great honor, thanking her for her service, and expressing his regrets that he was unable to present her the award himself, due to campaign demands while running for the presidency of the United States of America. After getting things running smoothly in Hoxie, she moved on to become State Supervisor for the State of Arkansas Department of Education - Special Education Division, traveling across the state to monitor program effectiveness. She truly loved her job and the people she worked with. She thrived on making a positive difference in the lives of the children being served. During this time she collaborated with Shelly Wier and Sandra Reifeiss to revise the Language is Discovery resource booklet for the state of Arkansas, April 2002 edition. Jerry Faith was a generous and loving person, always lending a hand to help others better their situations. This would come in the form of providing food and shelter to those in need to paying for professional certification testing and educational expenses - most recently to help one of her "adopted daughters" get reinstated as a licensed Coder, as well as offering to pay for tutoring for physics for her oldest grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Cassie Jurasits and husband Jerry of Lorton, VA.; grandsons, Matthew, Thomas, and Andrew, all of Lorton; a brother Gerald Kennon Walker of Pocahontas, AR. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 at McNabb Funeral Home Saturday, January 31, 2015, with service at 2:00. She will be buried next to her father at Masonic Cemetery.
