Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Jerry Wayne Vaughn announces his peaceful, yet unexpected, passing on March 12, 2023.  Jerry was born in Caraway Arkansas on October 1, 1946.  He was a proud, life-long Caraway resident.

Jerry will be lovingly missed and remembered by his close family which includes his wife of 28 years, Ann Marie Vaughn; his children Randy & Rachel Vaughn, Bradley and Natasha Vaughn, Denny and Kimberly Newcomb, Nick and Taylor Emery, and Travis Emery.  In addition to his wife and children, Jerry will be missed by his eleven grandkids, Micaela, Jordan, Sarah, Karley, Kyler, Kassidy, Weston, Kolton, Ava, Adien, and Tenley and his fourteen great-grandchildren, Vaughn Elise, Solon, Jesse, Chandler, CJ, Dax, Addy, Gracelyn, Ethan, Jackson, Noah, Elias, Everett, and Harland Ray. He shared a special bond with his surviving siblings, Kenny and Karen Vaughn, William and Diane Vaughn, Mike and Mary Vaughn, and Glenda Barker as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Floyd "Curly" Vaughn; his mother, Nina Vaughn; his brother, Wendel "Glen" Vaughn, and a beloved brother-in-law, Rick Barker.

He was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and enjoyed serving his Savior through his church, Caraway First United Methodist Church where he has been a very active member for many years.

Jerry was known for his joyful whistling and it is a sound his family and community will dearly miss. He was also known for his impeccable work ethic.  He began his career as a proud member of the United States Army and spent three years in Germany.  Upon his return, he spent many years as an auto mechanic owning his own service station in Caraway.  Later, he began a lengthy career in law enforcement as a Caraway police officer.  He eventually served over 19 years as the Caraway Chief of Police. In later years, he loved to work with his boys, Denny, Bradley, and Travis, helping them with their business endeavors.  It brought him great pride for them to ask for his help. He served the Caraway community as a current member of the city council, a former Constable, firefighter, school board president, and member of the VFW. His cherished and most loved job of all was being a "Papaw."

When he did take a day off work, he enjoyed taking family trips to the beach to play in the sand with his grandbabies, visiting his son's family in the mountains of Virginia, drinking coffee on the porch with his wife, or firing up his grill for a big Vaughn family gathering. He always had a grandbaby in one arm and a beaming smile on his face.
