Jerry Lee Sullins of Bono, departed this earthly life on May 13, 2022, at the age of 86, at the Flo & Phil Jones hospice House. He was born February 16, 1936, "back up on the break at the Hurricane Farm" in Grubbs, AR, to Alton "Bus" and Myrtle Smith Sullins. He was a 1954 graduate of Bono High School. In 1955, he left Bono to join family and work in the car industry in Flint, Michigan. Joyce Mosier joined him shortly after and they were married on January 3, 1955. They returned to Bono in 1956. He was a member of the Bono Church of Christ.
Mr. Sullins was preceded in death by one grandson, a brother, a sister and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Sullins, a daughter, Lynette (Carroll) Thetford of Jonesboro, a son, Brent Sullins of Bono, a daughter, Lana (Al) Williams of Paragould, six grandchildren, Greg (Autumn) Thetford, Carri (Jonathan) Baker, Kelli (Lynn) Murray, Ashley (Nick) Weaver, Alan Williams, Andrea (Brady) Higgins, 14 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and their "blue cat" Toby.
Mr. Sullins retired from General Electric where he was known a "Sullins" and made several life long friends including Frank Hinshaw. After his retirement, he cared for his parents. After their death, he enjoyed working with the Bono Senior Citizens and served on the Bono City Council.
Sullins loved music, played rhythm guitar, and sang with the Crowley's Ridge Band. The band played music in several areas in Northeast Arkansas but mostly at the Bono Senior Citizens building. He worked with Tim Wooldridge and other state government officials to obtain grants and funding to build the Bono Senior Citizens Building. He continued to support the senior citizens by organizing events and working the concession stand.
Sullins also loved racing. Back in the late 60's, Clarence Rogers and he built a race car which they raced at Jonesboro Speedway. They painted it pink and numbered it 88. His family loved watching him race, and later he shared his love of racing with his son, Jerry Brent Sullins. Together they built a car and numbered in 89. They raced at Crowley's Ridge Raceway and won the Championship in 2004.
Funeral Services have been set for Monday, May 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro, with Mr. Gary Cremeens officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery near Bono. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Those serving as pallbearers will be Greg Thetford, Alan Williams, Brady Higgins, Brett Baker, Jackson Baker and Tony Sullins.
