Mr. Jerrod Dean Nichols of Wynne, AR, departed this life Friday morning, January 6, 2017, at his home, at the age of 30.
He was born April 17, 1986 in Wynne, the son of the late Larry Eugene Nichols and Charlotte Yancey Nichols.
He was a lifetime resident of Wynne and a 2004 graduate of Wynne High School. He enjoyed video games, fishing, smoking Boston Butts, and visiting with his cousins. Following graduation, he joined the Marines and served several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He served 8 years in the service and several commendation medals and other service awards. After the service, he took a job with the Federal Correctional Institute of Forrest City, where he served as a prison guard. He was of the Pentecostal Belief.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Charlotte Nichols, a sister, Rebecca Nichols, and his grandparents, Eugene and Juanita Nichols and Clarence and Virginia Yancey.
He is survived by several aunts and uncles, Shirley Yancey Shannon of Harrisburg, Vickie Yancey Hively (Randy) of Cherry Valley, Linda Yancey Popejoy (Larry) of Trumann, Melissa Yancey Hooper of Bay Village, Butch Yancey (Sevella) of Harrisburg, Tommy Yancey (Betty) of Marina, CA, and many cousins.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Rev. Brandon Mize officiating. Interment will follow in the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery at Birdeye with full military honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Hooper, Dustin Shannon, Justin Jarvis, Matthew Jarvis, Timmy Yancey and Jordan Walls. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Blake, Terry Sisson, Heath Reynolds, Jacob Yancey, Calab Easley, Al Bostick, and brothers in arms.
