Obituary

Jonesboro- Jerald Edward Spencer, 74, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 from Pancreatic Cancer at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

He was born May 17, 1945 in Jonesboro to the late R. B. "Burrell" and Gladys Balcom Spencer. Jerald was a 1963 graduate of Harrisburg High School. He ran track for Arkansas State University from 1964 through 1967, was the first All American in Track and Field from ASU in 1966 and 1967. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. Jerald was a farmer and loved to hang out and drink coffee with friends at Gina's in Jonesboro and Exxon Station in Harrisburg. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas with the Jim Fulkerson group, thanks Czar. He was undefeated during his brief tenure as head coach of the track and field team at the University of Okoboji.

He is survived by his children, Bryan Spencer, Clay Spencer, Garrett Spencer and Laura Spencer; his special friend, Shelby Heeb; and the mothers of his children, Jeanette Spencer, Tracy Bollinger Fisher and Aimee Spencer; a sister, Joyce Royal; three grandchildren, Emily Stewart, Henry Spencer and William Spencer.

A memorial visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in his name to the Harrisburg High School Track and Field turf fund, 401 W South St. Harrisburg, AR 72432.
