Obituary

James Jarrett McFarlin, also known as Jay Jay or J-Bird by his loved ones, 34, of Hot Springs passed away on August 7, 2023 at his home.

Jarrett was born on December 16, 1988 in Conway to Robert and Teresa Brickell McFarlin. He was the youngest of the family having two older sisters, Crystal McFarlin Marcussen and Katie McFarlin. He graduated from Lake Hamilton High School in 2007. He was an Eagle Scout and worked many jobs including as a veterinary assistant and also a manager of a medical marijuana dispensary. Jarrett planned to attend Arkansas State University to finish his degree in Biology and follow in his father's footsteps and become a veterinarian. Jarrett was at his best when he was helping others, animal or human. He was a tender soul, incredibly smart, had a great laugh, and loved his family and friends fiercely. Jarrett is survived by his parents and his sisters, as well as their spouses, Andrew Marcussen and Cory Hartquist; his nephews, Alex Vasilescu and Graham Marcussen and his nieces, Ella Vasilescu and Greer Marcussen; his uncle, Tim Brickell.

Jarrett was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Gladys Mangrum Brickell; his paternal grandparents, Edward and Bernice Carpenter McFarlin and his Aunt Melissa Brickell.

Graveside memorial service will be held at Caraway Cemetery in Caraway at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023.

Family will receive guests after the service at Caraway Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
