Jantra Hettie Gillihan Holland Jennings passed from this life Sunday morning, Aug. 9, 2015 at the age of 94. She was born Nov. 21, 1920 in Melbourne to Thomas "Jack" Gillihan and Minnie Nevada Bales Gillihan. She moved to Craighead County Arkansas at the age of 1 and lived there for the majority of her life. She married Herman Holland on Dec. 5, 1937. They were married until Herman's death in 1986, a total of 49 long and happy years. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Dayton, OH. There, Jantra worked in a Department of Defense machine gun shell factory, creating shells that would eventually be used in the World War II war effort. They had three daughters Emilie Holland Statler, Elwanda Holland Fuqua Norris, and Regennia Holland. In 1945, the family moved back to Bono, Arkansas. Once back in Bono, Jantra had a diverse and satisfying career. She was head cook at Bono High School; supervisor at the Frolic Footwear factory for 20 years; shop steward for the factory worker's union; secretary and treasurer Bono City Hall, Bono Fire Department, and Bono Utilities (10 years); and intermittently owned and operated a ceramics shop. She married H.P. Jennings on Dec. 27, 1987. They were married for 25 years until his death in 2012, at the age of 98. Jantra was a master fisherman. She was known to catch trophy fish on the Tennessee River. She had a bright green thumb and loved nothing more than to share the products of her beautiful gardens. Her artistic talents spanned several mediums, including ceramics, painting, poetry, and quilting. Other interests included: membership in the Home Demonstration Club, membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a long time membership at Bono Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Vernon and Edison Gillihan, her daughter Regennia, her husband Herman, and her husband Henderson "H.P.". Jantra is survived by her daughter Emilie Statler of Jonesboro; her daughter, Elwanda Norris and her husband Bill of Jonesboro; her grandson Michael Fuqua and wife Cynthia of Bono; her granddaughter Sandy Statler Wiek and husband Randy of Nashville, TN; her granddaughter Kathy Fuqua Hawkins and husband Michael of Jonesboro; her grandson Randy Statler of Bono; her step-granddaughter Eva Henriksen and husband Jamie of Batesville; her great-granddaughter Lacey Hawkins Vance and husband Chad of Greenbrier; her great-granddaughter Sheena Statler Tittle and husband Justin of Jonesboro; her great-grandson Jonathon and wife Amanda of Lake City; her great-granddaughter Lindsey Hawkins Bowman and husband Derek of Carterville, IL; her great-granddaughter Devyn Statler Coco and husband Zack of Little Rock; her great-granddaughter Lauren Statler Hunt of Nashville, TN; her great-granddaughter Ashton Hunt of Nashville, TN; her great-grandson Justin Fuqua of Jonesboro; her great-grandson Jarred Fuqua of Jonesboro; her great-grandson Weston Statler of Bono; her great-grandson Jay Fuqua of Bono; her step-great-granddaughter Kelby Norris of Batesville; and her great-great-grandchildren Abbigale and Gavin Tittle of Jonesboro. But above all, Jantra was known for her love for her large, wonderful family, her bright blue eyes that sparkled when she was telling a mischievous joke, her incredible work ethic, and her unfailing love for Jesus Christ. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bono Church of Christ. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bono Church of Christ with Richard Akins officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery. All under the direction of Gregg Langford-Bookout Funeral Home Honored to serve as active pallbearers will be Jonathon, Justin, Jarred, and Jay Fuqua, Weston Statler, Justin Tittle, Zack Coco, Chad Vance, and Derek Bowman. Honorary pallbearers include Tony Sauser, Wilson Lane, Elbert Shirley, Phillip Burton, Bill Norris, Randy Wiek, Michael Hawkins, Mike Fuqua, and Randy Statler. For lasting memorials, the family requests consideration of the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House at St. Bernard's, 1148 E Matthews Avenue, Jonesboro, AR 72401, in appreciation for their dedication and loving care in Jantra's last days.
