Pocahontas- Jamie Doyle Ward, 77, was born October 31, 1939 to Doyle and Iness Ward. He left this life July 2, 2017.
His parents preceded him in death, as did his sisters Betty Carolyn and Martha Kathryn.
He is survived by his daughter, Emily Ketelsen (Craig Ketelsen); granddaughters, Abby and Katie Ketelsen; sisters, Audrey Million, Norma Sue Johnson, Linda Ward Simpkins (Dr. Sidney Simpkins), and Mary Etta Taylor. He is also survived by his dear friend of many years, Louise Riddle. Survivors also include nephews, Mike Million, Mark Million, Jim Million, Timothy Taylor; nieces, Suzanne Dees, Lori Hershey and Amanda Borland; great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many friends mourn his passing.
Jamie was a natural born athlete, outstanding in football, baseball, basketball and track. He graduated from the University of Central Arkansas on a football scholarship and set records in track and field that held for decades. In his senior year he was given the award as Outstanding Athlete of the Year. He remained lifelong friends with many of his High School classmates and High School/Collegiate Teammates.
He was a lifelong sports fan and especially enjoyed seeing the Pocahontas High School football team in action. He began a career in West Memphis as a High School coach, but in time changed his focus to sales, where he was an award-winning salesman with Proctor and Gamble. He continued in sales while living in Denver, Memphis and Little Rock.
When his father was stricken with Alzheimer\u0027s he returned to Pocahontas to care for his elderly father and mother. His devotion to them was without limits and he saw them both to the end of their lives, being their loving caretaker for over 20 years. During this time he also was a successful salesman for the local radio station. He will be remembered for his friendly, charismatic, outgoing personality, good looks, and sense of humor.
Jamie was a special person, loved by many. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation is Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 2-4 pm at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel with a funeral immediately following at 4 pm.
