James Wade Quinn Jr., 82, a long-time Jonesboro resident, died Sunday, October 14, 2018, at his home.
Wade was born in Osceola to James Wade Quinn and Jean Fisher Quinn Baehrel. He was a successful businessman and entrepreneur. Wade opened his first Jr. Foods convenience store in February of 1965 on Southwest Drive. From there, he and wife, Johanna, would grow the family business to include 18 stores in Northeast Arkansas. Recognized as a c-store pioneer in the Jonesboro area, Wade worked to maintain one of the largest local groups of stores for 41 years. He ran the operation until 2007, when he sold Jr. Foods to Iowa-based Kum and Go, upon his and Johanna\u0027s retirement. In addition to the convenience store business, Quinn opened a furniture store, Southern Accents and Accessories and still had a hand in many other business ventures throughout the area.
Wade was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on many boards. He was a member of the Christian Followers Sunday School Class for 53 years. Awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award from the Rotary Club of Jonesboro, Wade also served as the very first chair of Crime Stoppers of Jonesboro.
He was a devoted family man. Wade was married to his wife, Johanna, for 54 years. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, western movies, cruising with his family, in addition to raising and caring for a multitude of animals on his farm.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents, James Wade Quinn and Jean Fisher Quinn Baehrel; his brother, Ed Quinn and sister, Becky Quinn Gaines.
Survivors include his wife, Johanna Quinn; two sons, Wade Quinn III and Jim Quinn of Jonesboro; his daughter, Patience Gibson and husband Mark Gibson of Venice, Florida; his seven grandchildren, Katherine Howell and husband, Matt Howell of Aurora, IL; Destiny Quinn of Jonesboro, Patrick Quinn of Fayetteville, Paradise Gibson and Quinnton Gibson of Venice, FL; Sloane and Cross Quinn of Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 17, at 11 a.m. with Revs John Miles and Patty Soward officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
Visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church atrium.
Pallbearers include Bryant Baker, Bud Bingham, Tom Bishop, Quinnton Gibson, Marvin Hagaman, Roelf Pienaar, Harry Puddephatt, Patrick Quinn, Wes Williams and Jeff Johnson. Honorary pallbearers include the Christian Followers Sunday School Class.
