Jonesboro- James Franklin Gambill, 87, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home. Frank was born May 15, 1926 to John and Maude Booher Gambill in the Slabtown community north of Jonesboro. He attended New Harmony school and worked on his father's farm before entering the Army in 1946. After his discharge, he attended Jonesboro Business College, working part time for the Cotton Belt Railroad. Upon graduation he began a 36 year career with Riceland Foods where he served as office and traffic manager, retiring in 1987. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and volunteered at the care center for many years. He lovingly adored his wife of 63 years, Virginia Nichols Gambill. Together they raised six children, Rita Gambill, Rex Gambill (Phyllis), Donna Slagley (Billy) all of Jonesboro, Don Gambill (Kathy) of Neosho, Missouri, David Gambill (Sandra) of Jonesboro and Paul Gambill (Lisa) of Bono; they have fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Muriel Rains; two brothers, Earl Gambill (Era) and Kenneth Gambill; a brother-in-law, Bob Beck. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mary Goodman, Angie Beck, Velda Watson and Nelda Gambill; two brothers, Gene Gambill and Johnny Gambill; brothers-in-law, Hal Rains and Jack Goodman; sisters-in-law, Bunny Gambill, Sara Gambill and Geneva Gambill and a grandchild, Christie Gambill. A celebration of his life will be 10:00 am Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home at 300 W. Matthews Ave. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Ryan Gambill, Brad Hanson, Brandon Hanson, Jason Gambill, Justin Gambill, Taylor Gambill and Logan Akers and as honorary pallbearers the Deacons of the First Baptist Church.
