Jonesboro- James Albert Bassett, 77, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 5, 1943 in Manila, Arkansas to Albert and Geraldine Vastbinder Bassett. He was a hardworking man. James worked for Sears for 30 years before retiring. He then went to work for St. Bernard's Medical Center for 11 years. He enjoyed golf, gardening, and taking care of chickens. He loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Bassett; a son Mike Bassett (Tracey) of Jonesboro; two daughters, Cindi Gosha (Mike) and Janet Rusher of Jonesboro; two brothers, Richard Bassett (Pat) of Brookland and Bob Bassett (Patti) of Jonesboro; four sisters, Nita Roe of Paragould, Linda Peters (Dave) of Portland, Indiana, Meredith Farris (Johnny) of Ponotoc, Mississippi, and Shirley Davis of Leachville; three grandchildren, Lauren Ray (Josh) of Jonesboro, Dalton Gallion (Rachel) of Harrisburg, and Sean Bassett (Shania) of Jonesboro; two great-grandchildren, Ansley Gallion and Stella Ray.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dennis Bassett.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday May 12, 2021, from 11a.m. until noon at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. Services will begin at noon with Dr. Johnny Hutchison officiating. Burial will be private.
