Mr. J.S. Walls, Jr., a lifetime resident of Harrisburg, departed this life on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in Jonesboro, at the age of 92.
He was born June 15, 1929, in the Whitehall community near Harrisburg, the son of the late James Silas Walls, Sr. and Nora Bell Hinsley Walls.
J.S. started farming early in life with his dad and brothers and farmed all of his life. He and his first wife Myra had four children and were married for 48 years before her death in 1997. J.S. married Tina McCorkle in 1998 and they enjoyed 24 years together. J.S. was active in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, Eastern Star, Shriners and Gideons. He served for 25 years on the AR Farmers Union Board. He loved hunting, especially Turkey, and fishing. He loved spending time with his kids and grand-kids and loved to travel. He was a lifelong member of Farm Hill Methodist Church and could always be found helping out his fellow man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Myra Walls; a daughter, Kyra Walls; seven siblings, Birdie Sue, Emmitt, Vera, Francis, Bill, Clara Mae and Betty, and his son-in-law, Ken Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Walls of the home, one son, Barry Walls (Judy) of Harrisburg; two daughters, Kathy Murphy (Tim) of Harrisburg and Karen Carpenter of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Jennifer Walls Payton (Brian), Whit Walls (Bradley), Jeff Carpenter (Taylor), Jamie Chandler (Reggie), Katie Dale (Jed), and Ryan Murphy (Hayden); six great grandchildren, Kathryn, Isabell, Mack, Jessie, Ryatt and Reagan, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg, with Rev. Mike Utley officiating. There will be no visitation prior to services.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Whit Walls, Ryan Murphy, Jeff Carpenter, Brian Payton, Reggie Chandler, Jed Dale, Mack Walls and Ryatt Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Milam, Gene Crouch, Rusty Sartin, Tom Murphy, Roy Shepherd, and Brian Clampit.
A private family interment will take place later.
