Obituary

Mr. Ira Hubbard, 90, of Biggers, AR passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, TN., after a long illness. He was born September 20, 1920 in Prescott, AR. A retired educator, he graduated with a Master's Degree in Education at Arkansas State University. He was a teacher as well as a basketball coach, having worked in Maynard, Salem and Brookland school districts. He has been an ordained deacon for approximately 55 years, having been ordained at Witts Chapel Baptist Church in Maynard. He was a member of the Shannon Baptist Church of Pocahontas where he was serving as a deacon. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, sportsman, and gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, David Ellis Hubbard, three brothers, James Otis, Joe and Junior Hubbard and two sisters, Pauline Hubbard and Linda Sue Roffing. He is survived by wife of 65 years, Doris Hubbard of the home. Three daughters, Arva Hubbard of Las Vegas, NV, Janet and husband John Lonon of Russellville, AR and Rela Mae Jerome of Memphis, TN. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. One brother, Donald "Bo Bo" Hubbard of Corning, AR, two sisters, Magadeline Hubbard of Success, AR and Linda Hanson of Loomis, CA. Memorials may be made to Shannon Baptist Church Building Fund; 2063 Harmony Rd.; Pocahontas, AR. 72455 Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Bro. Loy Culner and Bro. Chris Powers officiating. Burial will follow in Corning City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday night from 5-8:00 p.m. Pallbearers include: David Adams, Randy Getson, Danny Cook, and Lloyd Gooch
