Ft. Walton Beach, FL- Ida Mae Blackshear passed away Saturday morning December 5th, 2020 into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Born May 26, 1936 in Caraway to Emma Fetters. Ida grew up surrounded by very strong women in a very supportive family. She as baptized into the Church of Christ and always cherished time with family and friends. She graduated from Central High School in Caraway in 1954 and married Robert C. Blackshear on July 3rd that same year.
They moved several times due to the military and Ida worked many administrative jobs, including as a telephone operator back when phone calls were transferred with actual wires and plugs. After moving to Warner Robins, GA, Bob and Ida adopted their son Daniel in 1975 and Ida found her special calling as a mother.
She was an amazing cook and loved feeding people and cooking feasts, whether only three people or 30. She also was a very talented crafter, having created handmade dolls, wreaths and decorative crafts for over 20 years. She always had a craft ready for her and her granddaughter to work on.
In 2017, Bob and Ida moved to Florida to be close to Daniel, Christy and Isabella and it was a true blessing to be able to spend more time together over the past several years.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Blackshear (Christy) and beloved granddaughter, Isabella Blackshear, all of Fort Walton Beach, FL; sister, Judy Hill (Dicky) of Collierville, TN; brother, JR Fetters (Sue) of Bono; and many loving cousins, nieces and lifelong friends, especially Jeanne McLain of Warner Robins, GA.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert, her mother and many cherished family members who are rejoicing with her in heaven.
The family would like to express tremendous thanks to the wonderful healthcare workers and caregivers who went above and beyond for Ida over the past several years - Kindred at Home, Emerald Coast Hospice, the Meridian at Westwood, Home Companion, and of course Mrs. Cora Coward - truly angels among us.
There will be a private burial in Caraway with a memorial service and celebration planned later in 2021 once family can gather safely again.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in Ida's memory to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
