Mr. Huston Earl Prater, Sr. of Jonesboro, departed this life Saturday morning, June 17, 2017, at the Flo \u0026 Phil Jones Hospice House, at the age of 84.
He was born August 4, 1932 in Egypt, Arkansas, the son of the late Jackson Prater and Stella Bridges Prater.
Huston farmed most of his life and also worked in some factories. He loved horses and trail rides and was a member of the Happy Trail Trail Rides. He loved taking the grandkids for wagon rides and on his tractor. He was a member of the Brookland Church of Christ and was also a former elder and former song leader. He married Jean Atkinson on November 1, 1951 and they enjoyed 65 years together. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S Army in Korea.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Roscoe Prater, Herschel Prater, George Prater, and Morris Prater, and 2 sisters, Adele Jones and Retha Hufstedler.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Prater of the home, one son, Huston E. Prater, Jr. and his wife Annette of Southaven, MS, two daughters, Ginger Wells and her husband Bobby, and Carolyn McGhee and her husband Robert, all of Jonesboro, one brother, Charley Prater and his wife Madeline of Paragould, 7 grandchildren, Robert Bice, Kim Pyle, Jeremy Wells, Andrew Allen, Autumn Cronin, Alicia Martin and Jessica Prater, and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Gregg Langford-Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Allen Ashlock officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday, 12:30-2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jeremy wells, Andrew Allen, Robert Bice, Colton Bice, Heath Martin and Matt Cronin.
