Obituary

Jonesboro- Homer Byrd, 87, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born October 21, 1927 in Black Oak to the late Howard R. Byrd and Hattie Irene Byrd. He was a school teacher at Lake City. He worked for the Arkansas State Plant Board for 36 years before retiring and then worked part time for U.S.D.A. He was a Christian and a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. Mr. Byrd was a Razorback fan and enjoyed hunting and farming. He was the proud recipient of the Arkansas Century Farm recently awarded to his family. He was survived by his Wife, Dorothy Chambers Byrd of Jonesboro; two daughter and their husbands, Linda Byrd and Rick Willis of Corinth, MS and Sherri Byrd and Jeff Gossett of Franklin, TN; three grand-daughters, Courtney Willis Monaghan and her husband Micah of Corinth, MS, Mary Beth Willis of Florence, AL and Sara Gossett Autry and her husband Harley of Greenbrier, TN; three great-granddaughters, Grace, Mae and Ivy Monaghan all of Corinth, MS and many nephews and nieces. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Eddie Dunigan officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until time of service. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Steve Smith, Harley Autry, Micah Monaghan, Ronnie Qualls, Cade Qualls and Danny Dunigan and as honorary pallbearers are Rick Willis, Jeff Gossett, James Bevill, Harold "Red" Bevill and Billie Rex Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Paragould Children's Home 5515 Walcott Rd. Paragould, AR 72450.
