Obituary

Paragould- Helen Cockrum, 92, passed away April 7 at Ridgecrest Health and Rehab.

She was preceded in death by her husband, P.C. Cockrum; her parents, E.E. Watson (WWI veteran) and Pearl Creech Watson Mitchell; her step-father, George Mitchell; step-brothers, G. W. "Dub" Mitchell (WWII veteran), Melvin Mitchell and Thel Mitchell.

Her life was defined by family survival of the Great Depression and the hardships imposed by WWII. She was a graduate of Micro, North Carolina High School, attended nursing school, a 1960 census worker in California, worked at Gibson Discount Centers in Jonesboro and Paragould and at General Electric in Jonesboro. Her optimism lead her to say she "never worried about losing a job" because she knew she "could always find another one".

Helen is survived by her daughter, Laura Caples and husband Fred of Jonesboro; granddaughter, Carla Robinson and husband Charles of Phoenix, AZ and her cousins in North Carolina.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Services will be private under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
