Obituary

Dr. Grant Killion, an 86-year-old resident of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at home after a week-long stay at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong educator, teacher, school administrator, and preacher who loved collecting watches, pens, and pocket knives. He also loved American literature and teaching students to love it, too.

Dr. Killion was born in Booneville, Arkansas and raised in Springdale. He went to Harding College in the late 50's and early 60s where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Bible and English. Later he also earned a Master's degree in English from Arkansas State University and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D) from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 1983. Grant spent most of his life after college in Pocahontas after marrying Carol Ann Bailey-Killion of Ravenden Springs whom he met at Harding.

Grant loved nature, photography, and being with his family, especially his darling Carol whom he said recently allowed him to "walk with an angel".

Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and David Killion; and by his sister, Sue Ogden.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carol Ann Killion, 82, of the home; 2 daughters, Deborah Killion of Pocahontas, and Brenda Cooper of Conway, Arkansas; as well as 2 grandchildren, Bailey and Braden Cooper of Conway, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 4 at 2 PM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Dennis McCarty officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM on February 4 before the service. Burial will be in Janes Creek Cemetery in Ravenden Springs following the service.
