Mr. Gene Bailey of Harrisburg, departed this life Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at the Flo and Phil Hospice House in Jonesboro, at the age of 84.
He was born February 2, 1936 in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of the late Alvin Bailey and Callie Campbell Bailey.
Gene was raised in Hazard, Kentucky and following high school joined the U.S. Army. He spent several years in the Army as a Sargaent Major and was a Korean War Veteran. He received two Purple Hearts for his service and was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the DAV. Following service he worked at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis as supervisor of Housekeeping and received recognition for his services on several different occasions. He retired from the Peabody after 12 years of service there. He moved to Harrisburg in 2000 and enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool and loved watching Family Feud on television. He was of the Protestant Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Dee Bailey and Geraldine Burrow-Bailey, one daughter, Janice Bailey, and five siblings, Geraldine Brown, Frank Bailey, Lloyd Bailey, Dean Bailey and Charles Bailey.
He is survived by one son, Randy Bailey (Cindy) of Poplar Bluff, MO, two daughters, Becky Bailey of Harrisburg, and Kerri Faulkner (Shawn) of Harrisburg, thirteen grandchildren, Steven Smith, Nicole Hampton, Savannah Bailey, Alyssa Bailey, Issa Bailey, Myah Bailey, Callie Bailey, Blayz Faulkner, Derrick Holt, Kacen Faulkner and three others, and one great grandchild, Emery Bailey.
Funeral services are set for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2020, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday, Noon till service time. Those wishing to send memorials are asked to consider the DAV.
