Obituary

Gena N. Farrin, 65, of Pocahontas, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Pocahontas.

Gena was born on February 28, 1959, in O'Fallon, Missouri, to the late Frank and Rosemary Nickell. She dedicated 28 years of her life working for Pocahontas Public School, where she was known not only for her professionalism but also for her heartfelt commitment to the community. Gena's involvement in the school extended beyond her role, as she worked with the cheerleading and dance teams for nearly a decade, imparting her energy and passion to the youth she cherished.

A beloved member of Beta Sigma Phi, Gena was a constant source of encouragement and support for those around her. Her contributions to the Pocahontas community were honored when she received the Key to the City from the Redskin Boosters in 2022, a testament to her deep love for her town and its people.

Known fondly as Alma Spikes' "resident tooth puller," Gena's quick wit and signature phrase "Play ball!" endeared her to all who knew her. However, her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, with whom she shared an unwavering love and devotion.

Gena was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Randy L. Farrin, and her brother, Jeff Nickell.

She is survived by her children, Rusty (Katie) Farrin and Roni (Ben) Horton; her adored grandchildren, Skip Farrin, Clara June Farrin, and Walter Farrin, Bennett and Braxton Horton; her sister-in-law, Kelly Nickell; as well as her nieces and nephews, Drew Nickell, Robbie Nickell, and Maddie Nickell.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Pocahontas with the funeral service to begin at the end of visitation around 6:00 P.M. There will be a graveside service at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Shirley Cemetery near Doniphan, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shirley Cemetery, where Gena will be laid to rest alongside the community she loved. There is an account setup at First Horizon Bank for donations to the Shirley Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.
