Hoxie- Garrel Vernon Rodgers, 71, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Walnut Ridge. He was born May 6, 1943 in Marked Tree to the late Willie and Leona Rodgers. He worked for Riceland Foods for several years and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. Mr. Rodgers served his country proudly in the United States Army. He is survived by his children, Robin Maxwell (Gary), Roy Rodgers all of Walnut Ridge and Becky Mathes (John) of Ft. Smith; five grandchildren, Brittany Leonard of Swifton, Gabriele Meador of Bay, Sharron Rodgers, Robert Krants and Boston Krants all of Ft. Smith; a brother, Vernon Petty of Jonesboro; several nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He was also preceded in death by a son, Rocky Rodgers and a brother, Gerald Rodgers. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service, Wednesday at the funeral home. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gary Maxwell, Earl Hamby, Roy Rodgers, Travis Pinky, Jr. Petty and Jamie Mize.
