Obituary

Jonesboro- Fred Cooper, 85, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020 at Flo \u0026 Phil Jones Hospice House.

Fred was born in Jackson County near Newport. He was the son of George and Ruth Honey Cooper. Fred was the fifth child from ten brothers and sisters. Fred graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1955. The same year he married his high school sweetheart. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, an inactive deacon and a member Cable Life Group.

Fred tried farming for a few years finally gave it up and went into building. He worked for Guy Pardew and Frank Barnett. He decided to go out on his own and formed FM Cooper and Son Construction as of which he passed it down to their son, Jeff which he and his son are active with it now.

Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing and was thrilled to be able to take the grandkids with him. He loved playing with his children and neighborhood kids especially getting all the kids around and start a ball game.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Ethel Cooper; his children, Karan Payton (Dennis), Fronda Holmes (Doug) and Jeff Cooper (Paula); a brother, Darrell Cooper (Annie); grandchildren, Cooper Holmes, Bryce Holmes (Dawn), Jarrett Cooper (Jessica), Ashlee Coots (Aaron); Chris Payton (Smantha) and Nicole McLure (Thomas); great-grandchildren, Jace Cooper, Hayden Payton, Judson Cooper, Hudson McLure, Baker Coots and Hadlee Cooper; several nieces and nephews and friends.

His family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be 3:00 pm Wednesday at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with his grandson, Rev. Bryce Holmes giving the eulogy.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Doug Holmes, Cooper Holmes, Bryce Holmes, Jarrett Cooper, Chris Payton, Aaron Coots and Ashley Coots and as honorary pallbearers are Life Group of Central Baptist Church.

All attendees must wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines.
