Fisher - Franklin Harold Horst, 87, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Mr. Horst was born on May 13, 1926 at Fisher to the late George and Emma Freese Horst. He was a retired farmer and member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Waldenburg. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Army during World War II. He had formerly served as a treasurer, chairman of the board, trustee and on the financial committee of Zion Lutheran Church. Mr. Horst also served on the Riceland Weiner Grain Dryer board for 30 years, USDA committee member for 11 years and a board member of Mallard Pond Hunting Club for 25 years. Mr. Horst was well known as the traveling farmers market and delivered strawberries, peaches and corn to the community from Fisher to Jonesboro. He enjoyed the Rice Festival with the old tractors, farming displays and talking about the Good Ole Days. One of his most admirable qualities was his humility and willingness to give, expecting nothing in return. He is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Debbie Jones (David), Lynn Jones (Wendal) and Kim Dennis (Terry Gayle) all of Fisher and Jan Wilkins (Allen) of Houston, Texas, nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ione Horst and one brother, Paul Horst. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Waldenburg with Rev. Albert Quoss officiating. Burial will follow in the Waldenburg Cemetery under the direction of the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Highway 14 in Waldenbrug.
