Obituary
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Florence Ungerank Courtney, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched.
Florence passed away June 17, 2021, at the age of 83 after a long fight with Alzheimer's/dementia.
Florence was born October 10, 1938, in Engelberg, Arkansas to Mike and Anna Steimel Ungerank. She grew up in a house of five boys and five girls which she cherished. After completing beauty school, she worked in her brother's Barber Shop. She went on to be a hairdresser for 40 plus years.
She married James T. Courtney on November 26, 1966. They moved from Pocahontas, AR to Marion, AR where they raised 2 children. Florence and family were longtime members of St. Michael Catholic Church where she was very active with taking care of the alter linens, welcoming parishioners as a Greeter at Sunday Mass or helping with the Food Fair making dozens of homemade raviolis. She cherished her friends especially the Social Butterflies and the Infant of Prague Guild. She loved to cook, especially baking and had such a passion for her garden, yard, and her many flowers.
She was the beloved mother of Sheryl (Marc) Mercier of Brighton, MI and James Courtney of Marion, AR, and a very proud grandmother of Dylan, Sean, Madeline and Brendan who all meant the world to her.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and 2 sisters, Joyce Schmidt of Jonesboro, AR, Marcella Pasierb of Little Rock, AR and one brother, Harold Ungerank of Maynard, AR.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 Years, James T. Courtney, Her parents, Michael and Anna Steimel Ungerank. two sisters Marie Clements and Ruth Hesse and four brothers Ralph Ungerank, Urban Ungerank, Gerald Ungerank and Frank Ungerank all of Pocahontas, AR.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 27 from 5-7 pm at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, AR with a Rosary being said at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, at St. John Catholic Church in Engelberg, AR at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, there will be a Rosary said at St. Michael Catholic Church in West Memphis, AR.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church in West Memphis, AR or the Alzheimer's Association.
