Jonesboro- Eunice Marie Wimpy, 91, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016 at Flo Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born October 2, 1924 in Bono to the late Ezra and Clara Coleman Songer. Eunice started playing piano at age 10 at Bono Methodist Church, retired after playing piano for 67 years at Mt. Carmel United Methodist. She played at memorial services at Kellers Chapel for many years, many wedding and Valley View graduations. She loved to travel, enjoyed trips to Europe, the Caribbean, deep sea fishing in Florida with her brother Victor, Cuba, Nova Scotia (pushing a dear friend in a wheelchair) and going to horse shows with Pete. Eunice helped Pete on the farm, driving trucks to the Rice Mill. She also enjoyed bowling with Flo Jones as her partner. She was devoted to family, many nieces and nephews have fond memories of staying with her and Pete, going to church at Mt Carmel and horse shows and the Memphis Zoo. She is survived by a sister, Laveda Songer Scott and her husband Ray of Walnut Ridge; a special sister-in-law, Luke Wimpy of Jonesboro; special friends, Dorothy Halford, Alieen Simmons and Irma Sharp; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who loved her dearly. She was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, James "Pete" Wimpy; her brother, Victor Songer and her sister, Annice Songer Scott. A celebration of her life will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. N. Wayne Clark and Rev. Edward Pruett officiating. Obituary and Eulogy will be given by Gale Yates. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until time of service, Saturday at the funeral home. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rick Holman, Wes Scott, Doug McCarty, Scott Logan, Bryan Meharg, Chris Logan and Jim Hawkins and as honorary pallbearers, the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church's Senior Sunday School Class.
